Auditions

AUDITIONS will be held Saturday, January 16th for the following plays, produced by the Dixie Dramatic Associaion. "Trifles" is a one-act play about two pioneer women who are married to local law enforcement officers. A man has been murdered, and the county attorney and sheriff have come to investigate, with wives in tow. While the men are busy looking for important clues, their wives notice the details the men dismiss as "trifles" and solve the case unbeknownst to their husbands. They must decide whether to expose the murderer.
Roles include:
George Henderson, County Attorney: Particular and business like
Henry Peters, Sheriff: Not bothered by the event, just wants to do his job
Lewis Hale, a Neighboring Farmer: Unsettled by the whole business, he wishes not to be too involved
Mrs. Peters,A nervous woman, worried about upsetting anything
Mrs. Hale, A take-charge, pragmatic pioneer woman
 
"The Revolt of Mother" will share the stage with "Trifles". Both one-act plays portray the tough and savvy women of the American West. "The Revolt of Mother" is play about
the
frustration of one frontier  wife who lives in a tumble-down, old home surrounded by gorgeous new outbuildings. For years her husband has promised her a new house and now he's gone and built another barn on the very site designated for it.  A chance
remark and an enexpected errand, that takes
father out of the way, give Mother an opportunity to get what she really wants.
 
Roles needed are:
Sarah Penn, Mother: Meek demeanor hides a feisty and frustrated pioneer woman
Adoniram Penn, Father: Quiet and focused on his work, but stubborn
Sammy, Son: Imitates his father, doesn't want trouble
Nanny, Daughter: Worried about appearances, tender-hearted and dainty
George, engaged to Nanny: A bit fancier than the rest but still a worker, concerned Nanny has changed her mind about marrying him
Emeline Adkins, a neighbor: The classic meddling neighbor who thinks of herself as devoutly Christian

About the Dixie Dramatic Association:
Welcome to the Dixie Dramatic Association!  We are a non-profit community arts collective that encourages self-expression through the promotion of original works for the theater.
